Župski pjat Opens With a Lemon Garden Walk and a Lecture on ‘Dark Tourism’

This year’s Župski pjat opens on Earth Day itself and in a wonderfully eco-friendly way: with a walk through magical lemon groves, over 300 of them in one place! At the heart of Rovanj, a hidden gem in Župa dubrovačka, lies Lemon Gardens - aromatic citrus trees planted back in 1982 tell a story of courage, love for the land, and nature’s resilience. Besides several hundred lemons, at the Jović family’s Lemon Gardens farm you can also see many other citrus fruits – limes, yuzu, Alexandrian oranges… As well as wild pomegranates, jujubes, and many other Mediterranean plants.

This fairytale lemon orchard has already caught the attention of both local and international festival visitors, and it's no surprise the program filled up in record time.

A lecture titled 'Dark Tourism in Kupari, The Final Chapter' will also be held this Tuesday, at 8 PM. The speaker is Vedran Mezei, a licensed tour guide and author of two published books, as well as the initiator and leader of several tourism programs in the wider Dubrovnik area.

The lecture will explore the concept of so-called 'dark tourism', with references to its most famous locations around the world and in Croatia, its unique features, and the reasons why people are drawn to such places.

The talk will conclude with a history of Kupari, insights from guided tours, filming experiences with National Geographic, Kupari as a film set, and plans for its long-awaited revitalization. With the recent fencing and clean-up of the area, the chapter of dark tourism in Kupari is also symbolically coming to a close.

All seats at the old mill venue were quickly booked, but anyone interested may text +385953284521 for information on a possible new date and location.
