Postranjskim koracima: A Walk Through Postranje's Turbulent History

Program Festivala sufinanciraju TZO Župa dubrovačka i Turistička zajednica Dubrovačko-neretvanske županije, uz podršku brojnih volontera, donatora i prijatelja projekta.

With a walk throught the turbulent history of Postranje, named 'Postranjski koraci', this year's second edition of the 'Župski pjat' Festival officially came to a close.

A Walk Through Postranje's Turbulent History gathered many participants. Historian and archaeologist Domagoj Kristović shared fascinating stories about the area's rich religious heritage, the Day of Gratitude (Sveta Neđeja), and a nationally significant archaeological site, guiding visitors through the most important historical locations of this part of Župa dubrovačka.

In the village of Makoše, participants heard a touching story from Mrs. Paulina Miloslavić about Trofima Made Miloslavić — a Croatian Catholic nun, Sister of Mercy, and victim of so-called hatred of faith. Trofima Made joined the congregation of the Sisters of Mercy in 1912, taking her vows in 1914 and again in 1921. She served as a nurse in Mostar and Rijeka. After World War II, she was imprisoned under harsh conditions in Rajhenburg Castle near Krško for five years. She later passed away in Rome as a result of her suffering in prison.

Today, the process of her beatification is underway, alongside six other Sisters of Mercy. Walkers and lovers of history had the special opportunity to hear her life story in front of her birth house.

The walk continued with Kristović’s engaging insights into historic infrastructure projects, and participants were also moved by the tragic love story of two young people,  immortalized in a sorrowful poem written by the heartbroken girl, read aloud by Perica Buić Jakobušić.

Visitors climbed up to the Church of Our Lady (Crkva Velike Gospe), and finally, at the Bravinjac spring, they were treated to traditional Župa sweets — simulata, prjesnac, and apple strudel — lovingly prepared and gifted by the hardworking women of Župa: Mrs. Perica, Mare, and Mira. We sincerely thank them!

With this warm and meaningful gathering, the Festival officially concluded — but its educational journey continues! Find out more on the Festival’s official website.
